A Bit About Me
Hello! My name is Claudia Carvotta, and I’m a psychologist. I graduated at La Sapienza Rome University, in the Medicine and Psychology faculty, one of the best two in Italy. In September 2020 I earned my bachelor's degree with an experimental thesis entitled "Young People in the World and COVID-19: A Study on Emotional Management During the Pandemic." The degree course was called “Psychology and social process”.
In November 2022 I got my master’s degree in “Psychology applied to health and work environments” with a thesis entitled: “The Association Between Anxiety and Insomnia related to Perseverative Thinking” and a vote of 110/110 with honor.
During 2023 I did my qualifying internship at a residential psychiatric house in Rome.
I have always been interested in the study of emotions, and I am passionate about the neuroscience underlying every emotion and behavior. I adopt a biopsychosocial perspective, systematically integrating the biological, psychological, and social aspects of each situation to try to understand it as comprehensively as possible and find the most effective path forward. I also believe it is essential to modulate the intervention based on individual specificities, maintaining a flexible and adaptive approach. I appreciate evidence-based approaches, and I studied more in depth mindfulness. I am passionate about art and art therapy; I also like to combine mindfulness and art-therapy (MBAT mindfulness-based art therapy). In my work, I use counseling techniques inspired by transactional therapy, which considers behavior and interpersonal relationships in light of three internalized ego states: Parent, Adult, and Child.
My working method is rooted in the biopsychosocial model. I always consider symptoms within their context, evaluating the biological, psychological, and social elements of each case.
Body, mind, and environment are always involved in what we experience: this holistic view of the person allows us to follow paths that are truly targeted and respectful of everyone’s uniqueness.
In addition to the “verbal” language typical of psychological support, I also use non-verbal expressive tools, making use of artistic materials to facilitate awareness, emotional processing, and self-exploration. (Not necessarily if the person does not want it!)
I use evidence-based tools, whose effectiveness is supported by scientific studies, to ensure that I am using the most appropriate tools for each situation. Among the methodologies I use are:
-
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) techniques,
-
Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) techniques,
-
Sleep hygiene guidelines,
-
Transactional counseling,
-
Mindfulness,
-
Art therapy.
These tools are chosen and adapted according to the person and the type of difficulty they are experiencing. The technique is a flexible tool that is modeled on the person's history, rhythm, and resources.
